Pick, Wash, Snap…Enjoy!!

While visiting a Mennonite family on their farm, they showed us the many crops in their garden. There was a huge variety including: corn, berries, flowers, tomatoes, peppers, and green beans. It was amazing to see the effort that the family put into this garden. They spend great amounts of time everyday working diligently in their garden. Now it was time to pick! We picked boxes of tomatoes and peppers. We also picked bushels of green beans. There must have been thousands that we brought back to the school. The next day, we spent our time preparing the green beans. First we had to wash the green beans, tomatoes, and peppers. We ended up with more than enough tomatoes so we took some to our neighbors. We then snapped the ends off of the green beans and then snapped them in half. Once that was finished, we blanched them, bagged them, and put them in the freezer to eat and enjoy later. Then later that day, Mrs. Carmen cooked up an amazing meal (as always) and of course it included seasoned green beans and tomato with basil. Boy, did we dig in and enjoy!!
