I Milked a Cow!
As we approached the cow’s pen, we saw a young lady sitting on a stool. Her hands were moving faster than our eyes could follow. She was literally a professional at milking cows. To me, having grown up in an urban area, this whole experience was very new. Just seeing someone milk a cow had me in awe. This young lady wasn’t just any farm girl; she could obtain about a gallon and a half of milk in twenty minutes! While observing this, the thought popped into my head that I could never do this. Boy was I wrong! Just then, Mrs. Carmen asked me if I would like to take over and actually milk the cow. Reluctantly, I agreed and found my hands on the udder of a cow. It wasn’t as terrible as I had expected it to be and I actually got milk to stream out. I do give these Mennonite women much credit for what they do; doing that everyday will really work your arm muscles! At the end of the day, I didn’t just leave with the knowledge of the Mennonite people, but with the privilege of saying, “I milked a cow!”
