Feeding the cows

At ABM we have the unique opportunity of raising livestock.  One of our favorite animals to raise are cattle.

After a several-step process which included diligent work and critical thinking, our fencing is complete!  While working on it,

Student operating equipment at ABM Ministries

Well, we’re back into the height of summer, and you know what that means; lots of green grass, too much at times!

A Baby born at ABM Ministries

A few weeks ago, there was a baby born right in ABM’s backyard. Yes, you heard right, a baby!

 Student Work Project

   Last month, we removed our old wooden sign and replaced it with a new, bigger, more colorful one.  After Mr.Reed had drawn a plan, we set out to landscaping around it;

Making EggRolls!
Thursday, June 9th, 2011

At ABM Ministries we are always surprised with something new to eat. On this particular night, Mr. Larry thought that it would be a good idea to make egg rolls for supper. This was something that I have never participated in, and it was an unforgettable experience.

Games

Whenever the students at ABM Ministries stay inside, because of the weather or some other reason, one really fun game that we play sometimes is beanbag toss. It's a game with two boards , in which you try to get the beanbags on the board (1 point), or better, into the hole on the farther end of the board (3 points). We usually play the game as an endless tournament, with each next two person team playing the winners of the last round.

Christmas Movie
Thursday, December 16th, 2010

Movie nights are one of the events that students here look forward to. Every Friday night we have a couple of movies picked out for us and we stay up at night until we have watched all of those movies. Sometimes we even stay up to around 2:00 am watching these movies. These movies can change from being action movies one night to melodrama movies one night. We have an extraordinary collection of movies here at the campus. It is a thrill every Friday night while we are eating popcorn and watching these movies. It is truly a relaxing time.

My favorite thing about ABM Ministries is the food and I know a lot about food! We have everything from delicious Italian food to spicy burritos. Mrs. Carmen and Mrs. Beth are the best cooks ever. Mrs. Beth makes awesome desserts, from pumpkin pie to mint ice cream cake. You would think you are eating at a five star restaurant compared to plain old high school and middle school food. You will absolutely love the food here!

I remember when I was a kid and the only thing cookies meant was chocolate chip cookies, oreos, and sugar cookies. However, we recently received a donation of biscotti, Java cookies, and other cookies whose name I can't pronounce. These cookies were donated by Coffaro's Baking Company which was founded by Joyce Coffaro, and the production is managed by Manny Jimenez. Life will not have the same meaning since these cookies assaulted my taste buds. The assault has left me craving for more.

One of our outdoor activities is work projects. Mr. Reed picks out four or five guys in the morning to go out and feed the animals; goats, cows and horses. After that we do a project that he has for us. We have built a barn to put the horses in and dug holes for posts to build an arena for training the horses. Now a group of us are working on a dock so when we go swimming at the river we will have a dock to jump off. You get a grade for the work project and it goes towards your schooling for a credit each year. When you are on a work project it is a chance for you to learn about architecture, tools and construction.

This 4th of July weekend the boys had a soccer tournament. There were two teams, the blue team, known as LCA United, and the orange team, the LCA Strikers. The tournament consisted of three thirty minute games. Best two out of three won. The blue team won the first game but the Strikers took over and won the second and third games, claiming the win. All in all, I think the boys had a really good time.

This past Sunday night the boys were gathered in front of the tv to watch the NBA Finals. Mrs Carmen provided lots of good food for them to munch on while they watched the game. Some of the Celtics fans wore green shirts to show their team spirit! We could tell they enjoyed cheering for their favorite team by all the noise they made!

On this rainy Saturday the boys took a break from working outdoors and stayed inside. They spent the day playing games. The highlight of the day was when Mr. Reed brought out the Wii. Tennis, baseball, bowling, and golf were some of the games they played. Demetrius and Cody played against each other and Demetrius dominated everything but the baseball, in which Cody finally got his chance to shine. Overall the boys had a fun and relaxing Saturday and they really enjoyed it.

Cinco De Mayo was really exciting. The four layered tostadas were delicious and the dessert was like the icing on the cake. Especially with the chips and dip we ate before our big dinner. It made me really full. Then we got to show off our mad dance skills with a little Macarena. Even though I could barely move, that was the best Cinco de Mayo ever!
