GUIDELINES FOR DISCIPLINE

1- All consequences of undesirable behavior shall be reasonable and consistent with the service plan for the resident.

2- All discipline will be related to the child's level of understanding, and level of behavior.  It will be limited to the least restrictive appropriate method and administered by trained staff.

3- Discipline will be determined on an individual basis, and will relate to the specific behavior.

4- The following forms of punishment will NOT be used:

A- Cruel and unusual punishment.
B- Assignment of excessive or inappropriate work.
C. Denial of meals, daily needs, and program provided by the individual's plans.
D- Verbal abuse.
E- One child punishing another.
F- Chemical or mechanical restraints.
G- Denial of planned visits, telephone calls, or mail contacts with family.
H- Corporal punishment.

5- The use of time-outs will be established under the following guidelines:

A- A maximum of one hour will be used for children over the age of 12 years.
B- Any additional time will be approved by the Administrator, and will not exceed two hours.
C- Time-out rooms will not be locked.

6- Immediate and complete reports of any violations to these guidelines for discipline are to be made to the Administrator.

7- Board review of reported infractions to these guidelines will be made within 30 days.

8- All new employees will be instructed in, and given a copy of, these guidelines.

9- A copy of this guideline will be given to all parents of children at ABM family Preparatory
