The world teaches us to look out for “number one”, so we shouldn’t be surprised that teens have a self-centered focus. Unfortunately this focus is exactly what leads them to trouble. A typical teen doesn’t want to be sitting in school, they would rather be pursuing fun. This mindset will not allow the student to focus on the importance of education. Instead of studying, the student does his own thing then when it comes time for a test they fail, cheat, or skip school entirely. Many end up failing in school which may lead to depression, guilt feelings or despair. At that point the teen looks for something to make him feel better and the cycle starts over again.
